Managing Your Profile
Your OJS user profile stores the personal details that appear on author by-lines, reviewer records, and notification emails. Keeping this information current ensures accurate attribution and uninterrupted access.
Accessing Your Profileโ
- Log in to OJS
- Click your username in the top-right navigation bar to open the User Menu
- Select View Profile
The profile page is divided into several tabs described below.

Contact Tabโ

| Primary address for login and all system notifications | |
| Phone | Optional; visible only to editors and journal managers |
| Mailing Address | Optional; used for print subscription fulfilment |
Changing your email address does not trigger a re-confirmation step in most OJS installations, but you should ensure the new address is correct before saving โ all future notifications will go there.
Password Tabโ
To change your password:
- Go to View Profile โ Password
- Enter your Current Password
- Enter your New Password (minimum 6 characters)
- Re-enter the new password in Confirm New Password
- Click Save
Use a password manager to generate and store a strong, unique password. Avoid reusing passwords from other sites.
Notifications Tabโ
Control which email notifications you receive. See Managing Notifications for full details.
Roles Tabโ
The Roles tab lists all roles assigned to your account on this journal:
| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| Reader | Default role; read-only access |
| Author | Can submit manuscripts |
| Reviewer | Can be invited to peer review |
To add the Reviewer role:
- Go to View Profile โ Roles
- Tick Reviewer
- Click Save
Linking Your ORCID iDโ
ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier for researchers.
- Go to View Profile โ Identity
- In the ORCID iD section, click Authenticate with ORCID
- You are redirected to orcid.org โ log in or create an ORCID account
- Click Authorize to grant OJS read access to your public profile
- You are returned to OJS and your verified ORCID iD is saved automatically
Authenticating with ORCID (rather than simply typing your iD) adds a verified badge to your profile and author by-lines. The journal can also push accepted article metadata to your ORCID record if this feature is enabled.
Privacy Settingsโ
OJS collects minimal personal data. To review what is stored:
- Go to View Profile โ Privacy
- Read the journal's Privacy Statement
- Your stored data is limited to the fields in your profile plus system logs
OJS does not currently provide a self-service data export or erasure tool. To request deletion of your data, contact the journal manager at the address listed under About โ Contact.
Deleting Your Accountโ
OJS does not offer a self-service account deletion button for readers. To request removal:
- Navigate to About โ Contact and email the journal manager
- Request that your account and any associated personal data be deleted
- The journal manager can deactivate or remove accounts from the administration panel
If you only want to stop receiving emails, you can disable all notifications in View Profile โ Notifications rather than deleting your account entirely.
