Tutorial: Plaudit Integration

Role: Journal Manager / Site Administrator
Time: 10โ€“20 minutes
OJS Version: 3.5+

Plaudit is a service that allows researchers to publicly endorse published articles using their ORCID credentials. This tutorial explains how to enable the Plaudit plugin in OJS so that endorsement badges appear on your article pages.

Before You Startโ€‹

  • You have Journal Manager or Site Administrator access in OJS.
  • The ORCID Profile Plugin is configured on your OJS instance (Plaudit uses ORCID for authentication). See ORCID Profile Setup.

Step 1 โ€” Install the Plaudit Pluginโ€‹

  1. Log in as Site Administrator.
  2. Go to Administration โ†’ Plugin Gallery.
  3. Search for Plaudit.
  4. Click Install and confirm.

If the plugin is already installed, skip to Step 2.

Step 2 โ€” Enable the Pluginโ€‹

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Website โ†’ Plugins โ†’ Installed Plugins.
  2. Find Plaudit in the list.
  3. Toggle the switch to Enabled.

Step 3 โ€” Verify Display on Article Pagesโ€‹

No additional configuration is required. Once enabled:

  1. Navigate to any published article on your journal website.
  2. The Plaudit badge appears near the article title or in the metrics area.
  3. Readers with an ORCID iD can click the badge and endorse the article.

Endorsements are displayed publicly on both your journal article page and the Plaudit website at plaudit.pub.

Step 4 โ€” Promote Plaudit to Your Authors and Readersโ€‹

Plaudit works best when researchers know it is available. Consider:

  • Mentioning Plaudit in your article acceptance emails.
  • Adding a note in your journal's "About" page or author guidelines.
  • Linking to plaudit.pub/how-it-works to explain the endorsement process.
