Browsing the Journal

OJS provides several ways to discover content: browsing by issue, filtering by section or keyword, reading individual article pages, and exploring author profiles. No account is required for open access journals.

The Journal Homepageโ€‹

The homepage typically shows:

AreaDescription
Current IssueThe most recently published issue with article listings
AnnouncementsNews and updates from the editorial team
About the JournalScope, policies, and contact information
Search BarQuick keyword search across all published content
Register / LoginAccount actions in the top navigation bar

Browsing by Issueโ€‹

Current Issueโ€‹

  1. Click Current in the top navigation menu (or the journal logo)
  2. The current issue displays a table of contents grouped by section
  3. Click any article title to open its landing page

Archivesโ€‹

  1. Click Archives in the top navigation menu
  2. A list of all published volumes and issues appears, newest first
  3. Click an issue title or cover to view its table of contents
tip

Each issue may display a cover image, editorial note, and DOI. You can often download a full-issue PDF from the issue page if the journal has enabled this.

Reading an Article Pageโ€‹

Each article landing page contains:

ElementDescription
Title & AuthorsFull title, author names, and affiliations
AbstractSummary of the article's aims and findings
GalleysDownload/view links (PDF, HTML, XML, etc.)
Article DetailsVolume, issue, DOI, publication date, section

Accessing Full Textโ€‹

  1. On the article landing page, locate the Galleys section
  2. Click the format you prefer (e.g., PDF, HTML)
  3. PDFs open in a new tab or download; HTML galleys render in the browser
info

Some journals restrict full-text access to subscribers. If you see a lock icon, see Accessing Subscription Content.

Viewing Author Profilesโ€‹

  1. Click an author's linked name on any article page
  2. The author profile page shows their affiliation, bio, and a list of all their published articles in this journal
  3. An ORCID badge appears if the author has linked their ORCID iD

Browsing by Sectionโ€‹

Journals organise articles into sections (e.g., Research Articles, Reviews, Letters).

  1. On the journal homepage or issue table of contents, sections are displayed as headings grouping articles beneath them
  2. Some themes provide a Browse by Section widget in the sidebar โ€” click a section name to filter all issues to that section

Browsing by Keywordโ€‹

  1. Click any keyword tag on an article page
  2. OJS displays all articles tagged with that keyword across all issues
  3. Alternatively, enter a keyword in the search bar and select Keyword in the advanced search field

Some institutions host multiple journals on a single OJS platform.

  1. Look for a Journals or Site link in the top navigation or footer
  2. The site-level page lists all hosted journals with brief descriptions
  3. Each journal operates independently โ€” browsing, registration, and subscriptions are per-journal
note

A single OJS account can be used across all journals on the same installation. You do not need to create separate accounts.
