Statistics & Reports
OJS 3.5+ includes a comprehensive statistics framework built on COUNTER 5 standards.
Accessing Statistics
Dashboard → Statistics
Statistics are split into three areas:
| Area | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Publications | Article and issue views and downloads |
| Editorial Activity | Submission counts, review turnaround times |
| Users | Registered user and reader counts |
Article & Issue Statistics
- Views: HTML galley page views
- Downloads: PDF and other format downloads
- Geographic breakdown: Country-level data (requires GeoIP database)
- Date range filtering: Custom date ranges
COUNTER 5 Reports
OJS generates compliant COUNTER 5 reports:

Export via Statistics → Publications → Export in CSV or JSON format.
Editorial Activity Reports
Track editorial workflow efficiency:

| Days to first decision | Average time to desk accept/decline |
| Days to final decision | Average time through review to decision |
| Review turnaround | Reviewer response and completion times |
Usage Statistics Setup
For accurate statistics, ensure:
- The Usage Statistics Plugin is enabled: Website → Plugins → Usage Statistics
- Geographic data: download and configure the GeoIP2 City database
- Scheduled task is running (cron job — see Installation)
- Bot filtering is enabled in the plugin settings
Exporting Reports
Reports can be exported under Tools → Statistics:
- COUNTER reports (TSV format)
- Custom date range exports
- Editorial report (CSV — submissions, decisions, reviewers)
