Creating an Account & Logging In
To submit a manuscript to an OJS journal, you need a user account on that journal's OJS installation. Each OJS site manages its own accounts โ an account on one journal does not automatically work on another.
Registering for an Accountโ
- Navigate to the journal's website.
- Click Register in the top navigation bar (or Login โ Register if you already see a login form).
- Fill in the registration form:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Given Name | Your first/given name |
| Family Name | Your surname/family name |
| Affiliation | Your institution or organisation |
| Country | Select your country |
| Use a professional email address you check regularly | |
| Username | Choose a unique username (lowercase letters and numbers recommended) |
| Password | At least 8 characters; use a strong, unique password |
| Confirm Password | Re-enter the password |
- Check the Reviewer box if you would also like to be considered for peer review invitations.
- Complete any CAPTCHA challenge if displayed.
- Click Register.
You will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided. Click the link in that email to activate your account before attempting to log in.
If you do not receive the confirmation email within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder. Add the journal's email address to your contacts to prevent future emails from being filtered.
Logging Inโ
- Click Login in the top navigation.
- Enter your username or email address.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.
You are redirected to your Author Dashboard.
Logging In on Multiple Journalsโ
If you submit to several journals that share an OJS installation (multi-journal setup), your single account works across all of them. If the journals are on separate OJS installations, you need a separate account on each.
Resetting a Forgotten Passwordโ
- Click Login โ Forgot your password?
- Enter the email address linked to your account.
- Click Reset Password.
- Check your inbox for a password-reset email and follow the link (valid for 24 hours).
- Set a new password and log in.
If the reset email does not arrive, contact the journal's editorial office. The email address displayed in the journal's About โ Contact page is usually the right place to start.
Managing Your Profileโ
After logging in, update your profile to keep your information current:
- Click your username in the top-right corner.
- Select View Profile.
| Tab | What to update |
|---|---|
| Identity | Name, affiliation, country, bio statement |
| Contact | Email address, phone, mailing address |
| Roles | Check "Reviewer" to volunteer as a reviewer |
| Public | Public profile URL, ORCID iD, website |
| Password | Change your password |
| Notifications | Email notification preferences |
| API Key | Generate an API key (for developers) |
Connecting Your ORCID iDโ
ORCID provides a persistent researcher identifier that links your publications across journals and databases:
- In your profile, go to the Public tab.
- Click Create or Connect your ORCID iD.
- Log in to your ORCID account (or create one at orcid.org).
- Authorise the journal to read your ORCID record.
- Your ORCID iD is now linked and will appear on your published articles.
Changing Your Email Addressโ
Your email is critical for receiving editorial notifications:
- Go to View Profile โ Contact.
- Update the email field.
- Save your profile.
OJS may ask you to confirm the new address โ check your inbox for a verification message.
