Getting Started with OJS

This article walks you through the essential steps to get your Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal up and running.

1. Install OJSโ€‹

Download the latest version from the PKP website and follow the installation guide.

2. Configure Basic Settingsโ€‹

After installation, navigate to Administration โ†’ Site Settings to:

  • Set your site title and description
  • Configure the default language
  • Set up the contact email

3. Create Your First Journalโ€‹

Go to Administration โ†’ Hosted Journals โ†’ Create Journal and fill in:

  • Journal name and initials
  • Description
  • Contact information

4. Set Up the Editorial Workflowโ€‹

Navigate to Settings โ†’ Workflow to configure:

  • Submission requirements
  • Review process (blind, double-blind, or open)
  • Editorial stages and deadlines

5. Invite Editors and Reviewersโ€‹

Use Users & Roles โ†’ Users to:

  • Add editorial team members
  • Assign roles (Editor, Section Editor, Reviewer)
  • Set permissions
