Getting Started with OJS

This article walks you through the essential steps to get your Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal up and running.

1. Install OJS​

Download the latest version from the PKP website and follow the installation guide.

2. Configure Basic Settings​

After installation, navigate to Administration → Site Settings to:

  • Set your site title and description
  • Configure the default language
  • Set up the contact email

3. Create Your First Journal​

Go to Administration → Hosted Journals → Create Journal and fill in:

  • Journal name and initials
  • Description
  • Contact information

4. Set Up the Editorial Workflow​

Navigate to Settings → Workflow to configure:

  • Submission requirements
  • Review process (blind, double-blind, or open)
  • Editorial stages and deadlines

5. Invite Editors and Reviewers​

Use Users & Roles → Users to:

  • Add editorial team members
  • Assign roles (Editor, Section Editor, Reviewer)
  • Set permissions
